The Power of Vulnerable Storytelling: Building Authentic Connections Through Words
We live in a world where we are defined by makeup and filters. We want the world to see us in a certain way and try our hardest to blend into who society says we should be. We don’t think for ourselves and get through life by simply going through the motions. In a world full of so much fake things there is a power in being authentically yourself. Today let’s talk about how we can build authentic connections in a social media picture perfect world.
Vulnerable storytelling is more essential today than ever because of the reach we have through social media platforms and the internet. We as humans have slowly strayed from telling story’s that are authentic and truthful to ones that help shape us to be who we want to be. This is easier than ever with social media where we can paint ourselves through the lens that we want to be seen through.
Creating Emotional Connection
Have you ever heard someone talking and you couldn’t help but wonder is the only reason they’re talking to me because they want something from me? This is what we want to avoid. To create connections with others we need to be truly interested in them and their story and not try to use them to get something in return. You miss the point of all of this if you are having conversation to make a transaction.
We shouldn't approach creative work with the sole intention of generating sales or turning a profit. Our primary motivation should stem from an authentic passion for our craft and the creative process itself. We should find genuine inspiration in the artistic expressions of others, celebrating their unique perspectives and contributions. Most importantly, we should actively seek to forge meaningful connections within our creative community, building relationships based on mutual respect, shared experiences, and a collective appreciation for artistic expression. These connections enrich our work and contribute to a more vibrant, supportive creative ecosystem.
Inspiring Others to Share Their Story
It can be scary to open up to someone else about what is going on in your life. Vulnerability is hard. It’s a leaned skill but it’s also very important. It helps us better understand our circumstances and heal from past hurt. However if we are too scared to start sharing we aren’t going to be able to receive any of the benefits of sharing our story.
By sharing your story, you might just provide the confidence boost someone else desperately needed to start sharing their own. In doing so, you could have a profound impact on someone else’s life, far beyond your wildest imagination.
Be ready to share your story with the world. It benefits both you and those who hear it. You'll discover people experiencing similar life events, forming deep and lasting friendships along the way. After all, life is far better when you're not facing it alone.
Facilitating Personal Growth
We’ve talked about it before but not keeping your story pent up in your mind you can unlock all sort of new healing you may not have even know you needed. Our mental health is such an important thing and as creatives we aren’t always the best at taking care of ourselves. Figuring out your story and who you are as a person is a crucial part to living a free joy filled life. Just by figuring our your true story you unlock a new type of healing your mental health desperately needs.
How are you going to tell your story? Through writing it down? How about through poetry? Maybe you are going to write a song, shoot a video, take some pictures, or draw a picture. There is no limit to what you can create. You just need to get out of your mind and start. That’s my challenge for you this week. Start that project you have been holding off on for whatever reason.
